Employment opportunities, Kitimat Meter Station opening and wildfire safety
Our workforce numbers saw a large increase in June, with both re-opened and newly completed accommodation sites opening to house their first guests. This is an exciting time as we ramp up to our busy summer construction season which will continue into the fall as we advance the project and move towards the completion of several upcoming milestones.
With more workers on-site, we have seen a steady increase in all aspects of construction, including pipe that has been laid across the project. There was a substantial ramp-up of large bore piping installation at the Wilde Lake Compressor Station and the Mt. Merrick Lodge opened its doors.
We are also proud to announce another important project milestone. In June, the Kitimat Meter Station was successfully completed with zero safety incidents. Community partners, including the Haisla Nation, local government representatives, and others joined Coastal Gaslink and our prime contractor, Aecon, to celebrate the project’s first fully completed facility.
Every season brings different challenges to the project, and working in the summer is no different. Like many of our community partners, we’re hugely concerned about the impact wildfires have on the environment and communities.
To prevent fires, we work with the BC Government, local first responders and our Prime Contractors to ensure Coastal GasLink teams have the right measures, tools, and fire prevention plans in place to prevent and stop any fires. Our crews are trained and equipped to suppress any fires that occur along or close to the project route, ensuring we do not strain local resources, but instead complement them.
