Building an extraordinary legacy

Our legacy in action logo

Across Coastal GasLink’s 670-km project route, countless people have contributed to our overarching goal for Coastal GasLink – to set a new standard for project delivery that will leave a legacy for Canadians for decades to come. Since day one, we have been committed to this goal, and have been guided by our values towards this greater purpose.

Respect for our Indigenous and local communities and environment is an extension of Coastal GasLink’s culture that celebrates diversity and individual’s achievements. We strive to learn, listen and understand the experiences and truths of the people and communities along the project route. Working together, we have fostered mutually-beneficial relationships and agreements with the 20 elected Indigenous groups along the project route. We are also supporting efforts for Indigenous communities to become equity partners in the project, which will contribute to Indigenous economic independence and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

“This is what we have been asking for as a community,” shares Lorisha, Community Workforce and Accommodation Advisor Coordinator and Saulteau First Nations member. “To have space and to have the audience learning about our culture so that we can bridge cultural understanding and have more respect.”

Since project inception, we have created meaningful careers for thousands of workers on the project, many of which are based in local and Indigenous communities along the pipeline route. Thanks to the opportunities that they have been involved in on the project, they have been able to build successful careers that will continue to deliver economic benefits to British Columbians today, and for countless years to come.

The safety of our people, the community and the environment is top of mind in everything we do. Coastal GasLink is committed to achieving the highest standards of environmental protection during construction, and for the life of the project, and has extensive experience in designing and building safe and environmentally responsible infrastructure. Construction of the Coastal GasLink project is guided by proven and robust environmental protection plans to help conserve and protect the environment. From water crossings to pipe installation, Coastal GasLink employs advanced industry best practices to protect the environment during construction. As we begin reclamation activity on some sections on the project, our team is using innovative and state-of-the-art technology as we return the land to a condition equal to, or better than how we found it.

Extraordinary legacy isn’t necessarily about what we build. It’s about what we leave with the people, and ultimately how the community feels about everything.”
