TC Energy and Coastal GasLink invest $48,000 to support Peace Region Emergency Management

Posted by Coastal GasLink

For TC Energy and its projects like Coastal GasLink, safety doesn’t stop at the right-of-way. Our commitment to safety extends to the communities where we all work and live. Over the last year, Coastal GasLink donated $48,000 through TC Energy’s community giving program, Build Strong, to support Emergency Services in British Columbia’s Peace region.

Safety is absolutely our number one value, and we’re proud to partner with communities who share our commitment. Emergency responders do incredibly important work to keep communities safe, and we recognize that they need the right tools and equipment to continue doing their job well.”

TC Energy has built a rich history delivering energy safely and reliably from where it’s produced to where it's needed. The Peace region is no stranger to TC Energy’s operations; it is home to significant natural gas pipeline infrastructure including the Groundbirch and North Montney Mainlines, as well as Coastal GasLink.

Early in 2020, the District of Chetwynd’s Fire Department added a new forcible door training simulator to its program thanks to the support of $10,000 from Coastal GasLink. “This training piece will ensure our team is equipped to expedite emergency access to those in vulnerable or possible life-threatening scenarios,” explains Chief Golob of the Chetwynd Fire Department.

As the largest regional district in all of B.C., the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) spans approximately 119,000 square kilometres and is home to over 60,000 residents in some challenging terrain. The North and South Peace Search and Rescue organizations are eager to enhance their communication technology and gear with the latest donations totalling $30,000 from Coastal GasLink.

“This support will enable us to upgrade our digital tracking equipment and other necessary tools that will assist us in emergency situations,” adds South Peace Search and Rescue team member Allen Tonn.

Building strong communities through giving back is an integral part of who we are, and we’re excited to support these important safety initiatives. Through a partnership with the City of Dawson Creek, we’re proud to support training for emergency operation centre essentials. Over 24 staff within the PRRD will receive this training this year with the $8,000 donation from TC Energy’s northeast B.C. operations.
