Coastal GasLink Year-End Recap

Posted by Coastal GasLink

The sun sets over a portion of the reclaimed Coastal GasLink right-of-way

Phase 1 update

As 2024 draws to a close, Coastal GasLink celebrates a significant moment as the pipeline has entered commercial in-service. This was another important milestone in support of LNG Canada’s commissioning and safe start-up activities, and as they have indicated, they remain on track to deliver first cargoes by the middle of 2025.

We remain focused on the safe and reliable operations of the pipeline system, completing remaining reclamation and repair work and putting our post-construction monitoring program into action.

Review of 2024 activities

This past year, a workforce of 1,500 returned to complete clean-up and reclamation work, which included: reinstating the ground and topsoil along the right-of-way; restoring habitat; decommissioning workforce accommodations, temporary roads and access points; and ongoing environmental monitoring. As of September 2024, all machine and final clean-up along the right-of-way has been completed.

Cable Crane takes its final ride

The iconic Cable Crane that once towered high across a coastal mountain range in Coastal GasLink's Section 8 West has now been safely and successfully dismantled. Constructed over two years, this engineering marvel used a gondola-like structure to transport equipment, people and materials up steep terrain. By project completion, the Cable Crane successfully transported 1,400-metres of pipe up an elevation change of 700-metres as well as the equipment and materials required to install the pipe and reclaim the slope. In September 2024, the final piece of the Cable Crane was safely removed, marking a historic moment for the project.
